9/19/2023 0 Comments DoomIt has its moments and is certainly not as bad as you might have expected, it beats 'Resident Evil' easily. After a 7-year hiatus, id Software decided to release a new chapter in the Doom series in the form of a numbered sequel that would take the franchise in a new direction. Its a run of the mill standard gun totting action flick grounded within the common sci-fi setting of steel corridors and medi labs. Clearly effort was made to go down the 'Alien' route rather than the current trend and I applaud that. Most of the creatures are men in rubber suits and detailed mockups which do look pretty good courtesy of Stan Winston's creature shop. Not the overblown CGI fest you might have expected! yes I'm amazed too. The film isn't top heavy with blood but it does get going from the midway point with some nice monster designs, slow increase of profanity and of course the classic FPS sequence towards the end which is very nicely done and dare I say quite cool. In my opinion it does pull it off just about and offers a decent slice of sci-fi action and gore. Early role for Urban here and he looks a bit chubby to me.Ĭore of the film is effects and horror and whether it could pull it off. Dwayne Johnson as the Sarge is reasonable but not quite the face you need for this really, the guy is too nice. Rest of the cast are all your regular types with nothing much to hold your attention. Richard Brake portrays Portman and am I the only one thinking he could make a brilliant Joker the way he looks in this film? The character of Portman is easily the Hudson clone here, more of a perverted creepy womaniser this time but he still has that rebellious loose cannon characteristic which makes him the best guy to watch. It always amuses me how these type of films include a Hudson character, its like common practice now to do this. The character names are all quite amusing and again totally cliched, but admittedly its based on a videogame so I guess they adhere to that well.Reaper Destroyer Duke The Kid etc. Of course it plays exactly like 'Aliens' from the point of the marines (what sci-fi film with soldiers doesn't) and offers the usual over the top macho nonsense you might expect. The disappointing plot changes aside the film isn't too bad really. The disappointing aspect of the film for me was the fact that all the creatures seemed to be merely mutated humans and not real monsters from another world or dimension. The videogame is mainly about demons and monsters coming through a portal from hell I think, end of the day its more about monsters than undead humans. So so so unoriginal and completely cliched sci-fi/horror, humans becoming the walking dead *yawn!*. This basically gives the excuse for lots of undead like space zombies which I hated. It does this by determining how evil the host is or if the host has the capacity to be evil, indeed. The really silly part is the fact that once inside a human host these alien chromosomes somehow are able to choose whether or not to turn the host into a monster or superhuman. Alien remains found on Mars with extra chromosomes allow humans to become immune to disease and heal faster, experimentation's on subjects cause them to mutate into monsters which of course break free and kill everyone. From there on the film goes off on its own tangent which encompasses all manner of regular sci-fi cliches. The plot flies close to the actual game story within the manual with certain aspects like the Mars location, teleportation experiments and the UAC corporation. Not that its a bad film though, surprisingly it keeps to the original source material and is actually made for adults only, one of its better qualities. We all know the game and how iconic it is, this film adaptation is less than iconic.

RAZER CORTEX: BOOST Unlock your system's full potential with a variety of performance enhancing and optimization tools for higher frames per second or to cut down on boring load times. The Razer Ripsaw is now available for $179.99.FOCUS ONLY ON THE GAME Razer Cortex brings enhanced gaming performance, recording and streaming gameplay, and the ability to find the best gaming deals to a single screen with all your games just a click away. These impressions are based upon a retail unit provided by the company. It’s by far one of the easiest capture cards that I’ve used in terms of getting it up and running, not to mention it looks really good sitting on your desk, but the lack of a native recording suite right out the box really hurts the Ripsaw when you compare it to the competition’s offerings. Of course, you’re still going to need OBS or Xsplit to make use of the Ripsaw, but you won’t have to worry about any other applications getting in the way. Razer has been pushing hard into streaming territory over the past few months and their recent release of the Razer Ripsaw will bridge that gap between streamers and professionalism even more, allowing anybody access to a new plug and play capture card that works without a lot of fancy drivers and applications. Coming in around the same price as an applicable Avermedia or Elgato, $179.99, it’s really all comes down to what you’re looking to get out of a capture card right out the box. Of course, not everybody has a need for in-app screenshots, and for those looking to get into streaming with a simple and elegantly designed device, the Ripsaw is a good direction to take. You also don’t get the option of an in-app screenshot button, which is something I use daily in my line of work. But setting those programs up to record is a little more complicated than setting up an Avermedia or Elgato. The Ripsaw isn’t bad for these applications once you get it set up-you can still record footage using OBS or Xsplit. Since we can't really talk about how this software will support the Ripsaw, you’ll want to steer clear of it for now if you’re looking for a capture card that already offers an easy way to record, edit, and upload videos. The biggest weakness the Ripsaw suffers from is the lack of any native recording suite right out the box, though we have been told that the Razer Cortex: Gamecaster software will support the Ripsaw starting in May. Having the option to stream at that high of quality doesn’t hurt, though, and it comes in handy in you plan to use the Ripsaw to record gameplay for YouTube or later use. The biggest let down here is the fact that you won’t be able to hit that high of quality when streaming unless you’re partnered with Twitch, have an insane internet connection, and a very beefy computer. Featuring 1080P capture up to 60FPs, and optional audio mix-in, the Ripsaw easily stands up to the highest level of the Avermedia and Elgato cards. If you’re looking for quality out of a capture card, the Ripsaw hits all the marks it needs to hit. This means you’ll have to spend less time fumbling for cables, and more time growing your stream. The really nice thing about it all is the fact that the Ripsaw comes with all the necessary cables and connectors you’ll need to be able to capture gameplay from the PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, and even the Wii U. It’s one of the least complicated setups out of the different capture cards I’ve tried which include Avermedia and Elgato cards.įrom here you’ll just need to launch your chosen streaming application, we tested it using OBS, and launch your stream. Just hook the card to your computer, throw your HDMI connectors on, and then log in to Razer Synapse to get all the drivers you need to run the device. The standout feature of the Ripsaw is the plug-and-play aspect, which makes it extremely easy to get it all up and running. But, overall the plug and play setup, the high quality features, and the sleek design make the Ripsaw a pretty good capture card. I wasn’t really fond of the lack of a native recording suite right out the box, or the lack of Mac support since my backup computer is a Macbook Pro. Of course, like anything, the Ripsaw has its weaknesses. I’ve spent the past week and a half working with the new capture card, testing out its capabilities and features, and I have to say, I’m pretty impressed. Razer’s newest streamer-friendly tech, the Ripsaw, has hit the market and it’s ready to take the world of Twitch by storm. |
